More than a third of Tehran's population lives in suburban areas

Masoud Shafiei, head of the Tehran Management and Planning Organization, said: "According to the latest statistics of this organization, more than 4 million people in Tehran live in suburban areas, informal settlements and dysfunctional areas; this is equivalent to 31% of the population of Tehran."
