A man at Tehran’s Haft-e Tir metro station attempted to set himself on fire by pouring gasoline over his body. Witnesses say he blamed his desperation on being fired from his job and having his bank accounts frozen.
He carried a banner that read:
“I am an entrepreneur and food producer. I created a new product that was widely welcomed, especially by teens and young people. But for 18 months, IRIB has frozen my accounts and driven me to ruin.”
Bystanders intervened and prevented the self-immolation.
