Amir Shah Velayati, a visually, faces the risk of "eye removal" if his imprisonment continues.

Amir Shah Velayati, a visually impaired participant in Iran's national uprising last year, faces the risk of "eye removal" if his imprisonment continues.

According to medical documents, if Amir Shah Velayati is not released for treatment under the supervision of a specialist physician, due to adhesion in the eye socket caused by an unreleased chalazion, his left eye will need to be removed.

Amir Shah Velayati was arrested by security forces of the Islamic Republic on the 18th of May last year and was released on bail after a while.

He was transferred to Evin Prison after being summoned to the court on January 23rd.

Derafshan, his lawyer, stated: "The medical certificate confirms that my client needs continuous treatment by an ophthalmologist and should not be held in prison.
