Videos and reports shared on social media indicate the start of a widespread strike and protests by shopkeepers in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar before noon on Monday, December 29th.


According to these reports, the protests began on Sunday evening, December 28th, following a sharp surge in the dollar’s exchange rate, and have spread beyond the Grand Bazaar to several major commercial centers in central Tehran.
