The Judiciary of the Islamic Republic announced on June 16, 2026, the execution of Javad Zamani and Abolfazl Saedi, two individuals detained during the nationwide uprising in Shahroud.
Reports indicate that the two citizens were sentenced to death on charges of “enmity against God” and “corruption on earth”. State-affiliated media claimed they played a role in destroying public property, setting fire to bank branches, overturning a police vehicle, and creating unrest during the protests on January 7–8, 2026 in Shahroud.
According to the reports, the death sentences were carried out after confirmation by the Supreme Court. However, no details have been made public regarding the full case files, the trial proceedings, access to lawyers, or whether fair trial standards were met.
