Shahla Orouji, his defense lawyer, announced: “My client Mashallah Karami’s second retrial request has been rejected by the Supreme Court, just like the first one.” Earlier, his initial request for retrial had also been denied.

In addition, Mr. Karami’s request for conditional release was recently rejected by Branch 12 of the Alborz Court of Appeals. After consolidation of charges, he was sentenced to three years and seven months in prison, while in two separate cases, he had previously received a total of five years and three months.

Branch 12 of the Alborz Appeals Court sentenced him to one year in prison on charges of “money laundering and acquisition of illicit property,” along with confiscation of his house and car. The Nazarabad Criminal Court had sentenced him to eight years and ten months in prison, a fine of 1.9 billion tomans, and confiscation of assets.

Another part of his case resulted in a sentence of three years and seven months for “assembly and collusion” and eight months for “propaganda against the regime.” Earlier, the Karaj Revolutionary Court had sentenced him to five years and one year in prison on the same charges.

Mashallah Karami was arrested and, after three months in quarantine, was transferred to Ward 15 of Karaj Central Prison. At the time of his arrest, security forces also confiscated all electronic devices and bank cards belonging to his family.
