HUNGER STRIKE OF ZARTOSHT AHMADI RAGHEB

Zartosht Ahmadi-Ragheb, a political prisoner and human rights activist, has been on hunger strike for the ninth consecutive day in Ghezel Hesar Prison. He began the strike in protest against security pressures on his family.

According to a source close to him, the complete indifference of prison officials and the judiciary poses a serious threat to Mr. Ahmadi-Ragheb’s health. A former firefighter, he had previously gone on hunger strike over harassment of his family and fabricated charges against his teenage son, but ended it after prison authorities made promises. With continued threats and pressure, he has once again resorted to a hunger strike.
