Reports indicate that Javad Naeimi, an Iranian citizen, was executed after stepping away from his work in the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program. According to available information, Mr. Naeimi had previously worked at the Natanz nuclear facility, and his decision to leave triggered a harsh response from authorities.

Israel’s Channel 14 reported that Mr. Naeimi had no connection to any foreign intelligence agencies, stating that his decision to quit was purely personal. The outlet suggested that the regime’s fear stemmed from the potential ripple effect of a high-ranking nuclear expert’s resignation, a move that could expose internal dissatisfaction and instability. It added that the regime’s later claim of “spying for the enemy” was merely a cover-up to hide the truth.

The judiciary-affiliated Mizan News Agency reported that a citizen had been executed in Qom Prison the previous morning, accused of “espionage and intelligence cooperation with Mossad” and “collaboration with the U.S. State Department.” In the following days, several outlets identified the executed individual as Javad Naeimi, an employee at the Natanz nuclear site.

However, the state-run newspaper Hamshahri Online later denied this, claiming that Mr. Naeimi was not involved in nuclear work but had been employed in legal and support services in Turkey with no nuclear expertise. Mr. Naeimi had been arrested earlier by the regime’s security forces.

Following the recent 12-day war, the Islamic regime has arrested, tried, and executed numerous citizens on charges of “espionage and collaboration with Israel.” A new law, the Intensification of Espionage Punishment Act, recently approved by the Guardian Council, broadens the definition of “espionage” and “cooperation with the enemy”, making any information, media, or technological contact with the U.S., Israel, or so-called “hostile groups” punishable by death.
