Mashallah Karami, father of the executed protester Mohammad Mehdi Karami, has had his total prison sentence reduced to three years and seven months following the consolidation of two separate cases. He had previously been sentenced to a combined total of five years and three months in prison.

According to his lawyer, Ali Sharifzadeh, Mr. Karami is now eligible for conditional release, having already served more than half of his sentence. A formal request for parole has been submitted to the judiciary.

Mr. Karami, currently held at Karaj Central Prison, was initially sentenced to eight years and ten months in prison, a fine, and asset confiscation in one case involving charges of money laundering and acquiring illicit property. On appeal, this was reduced to one year in prison and asset confiscation.

In the second case, he had been sentenced to six years for “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the regime.” This was later reduced to three years and seven months on appeal.
