On the anniversary of Navid Afkari’s execution, his brother Saeed Afkari shared a video and republished a short text written by their other brother, Habib Afkari, who remains in prison.
The text begins at midnight on September 12. In it, Habib, remembering his brother Navid, speaks of bitter childhood memories, the time of his arrest, the torture he endured, and the day of his execution. He writes:
"They’re lying. Is it possible to let a prisoner know where he is being taken?"
Habib Afkari, recalling the recurring nightmares of Navid’s execution and the presence of their other brother Vahid, repeatedly imagines Navid alive in his dreams and thoughts. He also remembers Navid’s first day of school, their mother’s gaze, and her warning to take care of him. At the end, he writes to his mother:
"My mother is still staring at my face. Navid is no longer breathing. Time no longer moves."
Navid Afkari, the Iranian wrestler, was executed in Shiraz.
