According to reports, Sina Ashkboosi, a 17-year-old student, was shot with live ammunition by Islamic Republic forces on Thursday evening, January 8, during the national uprising in Tehran, in the Tehranpars neighborhood. He was transferred to Tehranpars Hospital near Third Square, where he later died.
The body of the teenager has been buried. Samira Shahsavari, Sina’s aunt, said in an interview that authorities forced the family to promise that the burial would be held in silence and without any public announcement.
She said the family only learned of the killing on Tuesday, January 13, after phone contact from inside Iran became possible and Sina’s mother was able to call.
Samira Shahsavari said, “Sina was an only child. He lived a comfortable life, but he was very responsible, which is why he took part in the protests. He was a student and was planning to go to Canada to continue his studies.”
