According to information received, freedom fighter Sorena Golgoon, an 18-year-old student, was shot and killed by Islamic Republic security forces on January 9th, during the popular uprising in the city of Shahsavar.
Sorena Golgoon was set to begin his studies in mechanical engineering this term and was a first-year student. According to those close to him, his family was financially well-off, and his presence at the protests was not driven by economic pressure, but by awareness and solidarity with the people.
Based on the account of someone close to the family, Sorena and several other protesters were trapped in an alley, surrounded from both sides by government forces, who opened fire on them. A bullet struck his heart and lungs, and Sorena lay on the ground for about half an hour before losing his life.
Those close to Sorena have also said that two of his uncles were killed in the Iran–Iraq war, one of whom was a well-known commander at the time. The Golgoon family is among the well-known families of the city, and even a boulevard in Shahsavar is named “Golgoon Martyrs”, a fact that, according to relatives, makes the tragedy even more devastating.
