The Islamic Republic’s judiciary has announced the execution of Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, one of those detained during the national uprising following the state killing of Mahsa Amini in 2022.

Mizan News Agency described him as a “key figure” in the death of a security force member, but no details about the legal proceedings or supporting evidence have been made public. In the same case, two other defendants were sentenced to prison due to their age of 18 and what was described as a “lack of mental maturity.”

Human rights sources, however, say Abdollahzadeh was subjected to torture during detention and that his confessions were coerced. The case comes amid an ongoing wave of judicial crackdowns on those arrested during the uprising cases that continue to raise serious concerns about due process and defendants’ rights.
