The trial of Amirhossein Mousavi, a pro-monarchy political prisoner held in Evin Prison, was held at Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati.

Mr. Mousavi, alongside his lawyer Reza Shafakhah, defended himself against nine charges, including forming a group to act against national security, propaganda against the regime, collusion to commit crimes against security, alleged ties with Israeli-linked individuals, insulting religious sanctities, financing terrorism, cooperation and information exchange with Israeli affiliates, spreading false information, and promoting Israel.
According to Mr. Shafakhah, eight other defendants in the same case have been released on bail. He wrote that Mr. Mousavi faces nine separate charges merely for posting on X under the username “James B Dean,” calling it a clear violation of the legal principle against double punishment and an example of unlawful charge inflation.
Mr. Shafakhah described the case as a symbol of judicial injustice and the security establishment’s crackdown on free expression in Iran, saying:
“In a country where writing and thinking can be treated as espionage, justice is defenseless.”
He added that despite repeated requests, authorities have refused to grant temporary release on bail for Mr. Mousavi pending the final verdict.
