DEATH SENTENCE OF BENYAMIN NAGHDI UPHELD BY IRAN'S SUPREME COURT

Branch 41 of Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence of Benyamin Naghdi, one of those arrested during the January 2026 nationwide uprising.

The lawyer of Benyamin Naghdi, Mostafa Nili, confirmed that the ruling has been communicated to the defense team. They plan to file a request for judicial review with the Supreme Court in the coming days.

Benyamin Naghdi was arrested on the evening of January 2, 2026, during protests in Shiraz. According to reports, he was detained after allegedly setting fire to a fire extinguisher canister toward security forces. His lawyer stated that the initial charge was “attempted murder,” which was later changed to “enmity against God” (Moharebeh). The Revolutionary Court in Shiraz ultimately sentenced him to death on the charge of “corruption on earth” (Efsad-e fel-Arz).

The defense team has emphasized that no one was harmed in the incident and is hopeful that the request for retrial will be accepted.
