The Tehran Revolutionary Court has sentenced two French citizens to lengthy prison terms on charges of “espionage” and “intelligence collaboration with Israel.”

According to reports from media outlets affiliated with Iran’s judiciary, one of the defendants was sentenced to six years in prison for “spying on behalf of the French intelligence service,” five years for “collusion and assembly against national security,” and twenty years of imprisonment in exile for “intelligence collaboration with Israel” under the charge of moharebeh (waging war against God).

The second defendant was sentenced to ten years in prison for “espionage,” five years for “collusion and assembly,” and seventeen years for “aiding in intelligence collaboration with Israel.”

While the judiciary has not released the names of the defendants, independent reports and official statements from the French government strongly indicate that the sentences are for Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris, two French citizens who were arrested in Iran.

The French government has repeatedly demanded their release, and President Emmanuel Macron, in his recent meeting with Iranian officials, once again stressed the need for their immediate freedom.
